How come that you joined Edenspiekermann?

Well. It’s quite straightforward. Edenspiekermann is part of my plan for world domination through creativity and design. No, it’s not ;). We just share the same ambition and have a shared idea about the future of business and brands. It’s that simple.

What did you do beforehand?

I started my own brand agency 15 years ago. And worked on all kinds of national and international projects and clients in fashion retail, dance music, consumer brands and corporates. But I still wasn’t travelling fast enough through the brand universe. So I decided to step up and boarded the very ambitious Dietwee spaceship. A world famous agency in the Netherlands. We worked on big Telcos, financials, cultural and fashion clients. I enjoyed the ride, but it was clear I wanted to head in a different direction.
So I had to abort the ship. I checked out and instantly received a call if I would be interested in a ride aboard a high tech ship called the ES One. It turned out they were flying towards my favourite destination, the future.

What are your special skills? What are you especially interested in?

I’m a communications concept guy. I see design as a tool to solve communication problems. In order to engage people, create memorable messages and start a dialogue with customers. I like ideas that stick, are simple and never let go.

I’m a generalist. There is a lot of stuff people can do better than me. And that’s perfect. In the meantime I’ll keep the bigger picture in mind.

I’m a team guy. I love working with dedicated teams. Teams with people that are willing to go beyond their own comfort zone. I’ll push them forward. In a coaching manner based on equality.

I feel responsible. There is lot of stuff that needs to change in this world. I want to contribute and hope I can make a small difference.

I’m a metal head. I’m fluent in grunt and a medior level welder. Is that relevant? Yep. I believe you always have to put personal passions in your work.

Is there always metal in your work?

Metal is a mentality. It’s about counter culture. Against the grain. It’s about never being afraid to listen to something that might sound a bit different. Or even horrific. By the way, a massive mosh pit is a very good place for any management/leadership training.

What is your responsibility at ESPI Amsterdam?

Very clear. I will help the Amsterdam office to grow the business by bringing in new clients. And second I will help build strong creative teams that are concept-driven and create the most impactful and outspoken brands.

Would you like to mention something about you as a private person?

No. I avoid talking about myself. We should talk about my wife. She is awesome. And German. You should meet her. Her name is Heike.
