Say “Hi” to Kay

kay-hooijmans

Why did you choose to join Edenspiekermann?

As a designer, the right environment has always been leading for me. Looking at their philosophy and work Edenspiekermann always seemed like a place where I would like to be. So I was happy to join when they said I could be the right “puzzelstukje”.

What did you do beforehand?

The past three years I mainly worked on digital products. I was fortunate to be at agencies where I had a lot of freedom to work on all aspects of a project. This was important to me because I want to have a thorough understanding of other design disciplines.

What are your special skills?

I like to think I have an analytical approach to design, but also the ability to make visuals that hurt a little bit.
I want to keep things clear but surprising.

What are you especially interested in?

Complex problems and stories, they force you to find a tailor-made solution and steer clear of visual pollution.

I am interested in where my discipline meets others’. The past year I worked on personal projects in the fields of journalism and product design. I try to explore, and feel uncomfortable in what I’m doing from time to time, so I know that I’m evolving.

I love film, it’s where a lot of design disciplines come together and strengthen each other to create a powerful experience.

What’s your ambition at Edenspiekermann?

Bringing smart solutions and beautiful aesthetics to environments and products where you wouldn’t expect it.

Describe yourself in three words

“ornithologist, philatelist, philanthropist” (did I say I love films?)
