The Edenspiekermann Guide to Christmas

Whether you’re a Home Alone fan, a card-carrying Grinch, or think Die Hard is the ultimate Christmas movie, there’s no escaping the festive season. We’ve been pretty busy here in the Berlin office, but our team found the time to bring their favorite Christmassy things together for our official Edenspiekermann guide to the festive season.

Music

The whole team got the chance to add their favorite Christmas songs, and when it comes to Christmas music, the cheesier the better. So hit play and get into the Christmas spirit; it’s the soundtrack to our article.

See, you’re feeling more festive already. Now the Christmas songs are covered, it’s time for the next step...

Christmas jumpers

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a cheesy Christmas jumper, so our designer Ajda designed personalized sweaters for our offices in Amsterdam, Berlin, Los Angeles, and Singapore.

Berlin’s TV tower has never looked so festive, and this jumper is arguably more colorful than winter in the Hauptstadt.

If there are any knitting fans out there with some spare time, hit us up. Maybe we can bring these to life.

The Gift Guide

Christmas Gifts Overview by Marcel

Designer Marcel was inspired to create a gift guide. Some of these are pretty obvious (I’ll take the gift of a bathing pug anyday) but the others might need a bit of explaining, so here’s Marcel’s guide:

VR Headset: If you’re really looking for a present that your beloved ones will never forget, go for a Pornhub VR headset. Since tinder has changed the way we deal with relationships this is probably the next big thing in 2017. So you can’t go wrong with this one.

3D food printer: Food is always a trend and this won’t change in 2017. Quite the reverse! With an average 3D food printer your parents are going to be the stars on every family party. Vegetables that taste like cookies, Bananas that look like lego bricks, everything will be possible and nothing will taste how it looks!

Lava lamp & casette tape: Your hipster friends will love you for these. The lava lamp is going be the new vintage object in your friend’s apartment and the casette tape will replace their outdated vinyl collection.

Kitchen knife set: Everyone has that one friend who really wants to show off in the kitchen, and the samurai catana kitchen knife set will guarantee many likes on your friend’s next Instagram story. Just make sure to keep a safe distance—these are for pro-users only.

Christmas Cookies

So you’re looking festive, you’ve got your gifts sorted, and the Christmas songs are playing in the background. Now all that’s left are the treats (and maybe some eggnog or glühwein, but we’ll leave that bit up to you).

We asked the Berlin office for their best Christmas cookie recipes, and Pia’s typewriter-printed, cookie-dough-stained Danish recipe for “brune kager” was our winner. So here, translated into English, is Pia’s grandmother’s guide to the perfect cookie. We can’t promise they’ll come out looking as cute as Yerang’s illustration, though.

Edenspiekermann Christmas Cookies by Yerang

Grandma’s delicious brown biscuits

  • 500g flour
  • 200g sugar
  • 300g butter
  • 80g cocoa
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 egg

Baking instructions

Mix butter, flour, sugar, cocoa and vanilla till it is an even mass. Add the egg. Add an additional egg or some milk if the dough is too dry. Store in a cool place over night. Roll it out and make Christmas shapes out of it. Bake and glaze.

And that’s our four-step guide to Christmas. If any of you actually bake those cookies, tweet us a photo.

We thought we’d end our guide to Christmas by giving you a sneak peek into the Berlin office’s Christmas corner. We might all be grown-ups (kind of) but that doesn’t mean we can’t have an Advent calendar. Marcel organized a team calendar with 24 hand-numbered cards. The only rules: use black pen, and include metallic gold paper (just to make things more difficult). So 24 of us went off and designed our numbers, and about half of us broke the style rules. But it looks impressive anyway.

Have a very merry Christmas

From all of us at Edenspiekermann, have a great Christmas and a happy New Year. We’ll see you in 2017, and for now we’ll leave you with a final illustration of Christmas in the Berlin office, by the very talented Disha.
