In 2007 the font family DB Type, developed by Erik Spiekermann for Deutsche Bahn, was given the Gold German Federal Design Award. This year Edenspiekermann has a good chance of winning the renowned prize once again. 3 works by the agency have been nominated: Hering Berlin, TCHO and the Utrecht City Theatre.

The prize is the highest official award in Germany for design. Only work and products which have already won national or international awards may be nominated. The 700-page product catalogue and image brochure for the porcelain manufacturer Hering Berlin was last year’s recipient of the European Design Award, the iF Communication Award and the red dot communication design award.

The packaging design for the fair trade chocolate brand TCHO also received several awards. Along with a nomination at the Cannes Design Lions, the elegant packaging has already received the European Design Award, the iF Communication Design Award and the Academy of Chocolate Award.

The new design for the Utrecht City Theatre, which has already won the red dot award, is also in the running for the gold or silver design award. The German Federal Republic Design Award will take place in Frankfurt in February 2011.
