ESPI Brainfood: Small Bites for Your Brain

Brainfood Blog Cover

We believe in the power of sharing stories, the kind of ideas and information that help make a difference not just to us, but to our clients, our clients’ customers, and beyond. And, as luck would have it, the world is full of awesome stories and ideas.

That’s why we invite guests to come by and share a funny, exciting, surprising, interesting or inspiring story with us. A short talk about anything that will tickle our brains. We do this once a week in Berlin and monthly in Amsterdam, and, more often than not, the speakers come from outside of the office.

Here’s just a few of the great stories we’ve heard so far:

The Power of Macro and the Aesthetics of Foodporn Cinematographer Remko Schnorr talked about the power of macro photography and the aesthetics of foodporn. He has worked on two beautifully made documentaries, among many other projects. One, L'amour des moules, is about the fascinating life cycle of the Zeeland mussel and the passionate individuals it encounters en route. The other, Sergio Herman: Fucking Perfect, follows top chef Sergio Herman during a year of great changes. You should definitely see these films, because they’re great.

Three Religions Under One Roof Pastor Gregor Holberg came to talk about House of One, the first project of its kind in the world. Jews, Christians, and Muslims are planning to build a house of worship in Berlin, one that brings a synagogue, a church, and a mosque together under one roof. The three separate sections will be linked by a communal room in the center of the building. This will serve as a meeting place, where worshippers and members of the public can come together and learn more about the religions and each other.

Bitcoin Payments Made Fun and Easy Only 19 years old, Bas de Vries took us on a tour through the world of bitcoins and the fascinating system behind it, the Blockchain—his solution for creating the ideal bank. As the founder of payment app Florin, he showed us that Bitcoin payments can be both fun and easy, and he was also chosen to talk at the National Bitcoin Congress. Pretty impressive.

Design in Automotive Agency Here talked about how users will be supported by smart maps in the future. This won’t just mean getting from A to B, but also connecting to mobile phones when exiting the vehicle and showing available parking spots when you’re getting closer to your destination.

How to Live a Happy and Meaningful Life Rens ter Weijde shared his mission to help more people live happier and more meaningful lives—or as he says, to ‘flourish’. With his company Purpose+, he helps organizations embed the science of well-being and purpose into their work, creating a network of purpose-driven catalysts for a flourishing world. Something we also share. Check out his book, Building Positive Organizations.

Christoffer and Kaisa Leka Finnish duo Christoffer and Kaisa Leka are the authors of beautiful comic books and graphic novels. Kaisa does the drawing and Christopher designs. They don’t feel the need to please anyone except themselves, but luckily there seems to be a lot of other people who share their taste when it comes to printed matter. Their Brainfood talk was incredibly entertaining and inspiring. So if you ever get the chance to see them, don’t miss it. And go buy their books!

A big thank you to all our Brainfood guests for their amazing input last year. It was an honor to have you at the Edenspiekermann offices.
