Friday is the lifestyle magazine by 20Minuten Switzerland's most widely read daily newspaper. As they build up a huge and loyal community it was about time to adapt and shift the distribution of their content from a weekly print to a monthly magazine and from a simple blog to an online platform. To easily distribute their content and engage with their community Friday needed to become a future proof content platform with modular and scalable ecosystem that enables their team to make the most out of every content piece and also develop new content formats easily.

Based on those requirements we created a state of the art IT infrastructure based on a CMS (Craft) that empowers the team to create and orchestrate their content efficiently. This API first approach not only allows to create content once and publish it multiple times, it will also support future growth for example through content partnerships.

Together with their team we conceptualized a new design language and restructured the architecture of the magazine online.

Working with Edenspiekermann was a great experience. They helped us to understand and focus on the needs of our community as well as our editorial team.Kerstin Netsch, Editor in Chief Friday Magazine

The new direction aims to translate Friday’s personality into a visual language that could be elegant and bold, but also playful and fresh. The result is a unique style that has a strong personality with feminine touch, but that is able to take distance the “girly” stereotype. This concept is represented in every design choice and constituting the core elements of the magazine: from typography and color selection, to user experience and content structure.

One of the major goals of Friday Magazine was to not create more but more relevant content to engage with their readers. Therefore we developed a content and community strategy that will allow them to turn loyal readers into a meaningful community. During an intense 2 day content training with our experts including a coaching on how to develop new content formats we enabled the team to bring this strategy to life and implement it in the daily workflows.
